Halo and Destiny developer Bungie appears to be making a long-craved pivot to mobile gaming. After years of fans clamouring for a port of its fantastic free-to-play FPSRPG Destiny 2, fans may actually get a mobile release of, well, something.
While the developer is working on its first major mobile release, it appears that its not the Destiny 2 Mobile release we’ve always wanted. But what is this mystery mobile game?
Is Destiny Mobile in development?
The report is based off a job listing from a NetEase artist working on the upcoming project. In the artist’s LinkedIn profile, it claims that NetEase and Bungie are working together on “an unannounced FPS mobile game”.
According to multiple sources, the collaboration between NetEase and Bungie has been in development for a number of years. With Bungie reportedly working on a mobile-compatible branch of its in-house Tiger Engine, it’s likely a Destiny or Destiny-esque title.
However, it’s worth noting that this isn’t a pure port of Destiny 2. While the final project may end to re-using mechanics or art assets from the game — like other mobile releases — it will be something different. This means that missions and environments should be more suited to smaller screens.

The Mobile Shooter craze continues
Bringing Destiny to mobile in some capacity is far from surprising. In fact, it seems bizarre that we haven’t already received a mobile version of the popular free-to-play looter-shooter.
With titles like Fortnite, Call of Duty Mobile, Apex Legends and more performing incredibly well on mobile, it seems obvious that Bungie would want a slice of that pie. Furthermore, more competitors are already on the way. We see you, Battlefield!
Destiny Mobile could end up becoming a major part of Bungie’s income when, or if, it finally releases. One thing’s for sure, though, we want it!
